Fortune Favors The Bold

"Fortune always favors the brave, and never helps a man who does not help himself."
- P. T. Barnum

A famous proverb, ‘Fortune favors the bold’ delineates that one should not be afraid of taking on a path which scares one. It means that one should be bold in the pursuit of one’s dreams. Those who don’t get timid in the face of catastrophes often materialize their dreams into reality.

If only ‘thinking’ could get us something, we all would have everything. How fortunate it would have been if we could get everything we desire without facing the world? It’s true that many people give up on their dreams just because of the fear of facing people and the world. We have all heard, ‘When the going gets tough, the tough get going’.  It is wise to always believe in luck, but this wiseness turns into foolishness if you wait for luck by just sitting idle.

Fortune or Luck is something that comes to one by chance, it can be on any person’s side.

But are you ready for risks?

It’s the rule of life that if you ever want to achieve the thing you always dreamed of, you have to be ready for risks. Once you start taking risks, new and untapped challenges will open up that will make you bolder. And once you become bold, fortune may follow you everywhere.

We’ve all heard of Martin Luther King Jr. As a civil rights leader, his work was one of the hardest things to do in history at a time when America was racially segregated. His answer to facing this challenge was simply to put all his energy and power into ‘his dream’. If there was anything that kept him going, knowing the dangers and risks, was his dream of equality. He didn’t only dream but dreamt with conviction. When, in front of 250,000 people, King delivered his masterpiece ‘I have a dream’ speech in which by dream he did not only mean dream but revolution. He did not only saw that dream but stood up to transform it into reality and that’s when fortune came his way too.

Another powerful example of this determination is of famous and youngest Nobel Prize winner, Malala Yousafzai.  One of the hardest things to do is to struggle to achieve things you love in the face of adversaries. Malala is an example for all that you can do or achieve anything in the world if you are bold. Even being aware of all the dangers and threats from the Taliban regarding women receiving schooling, Malala continued to get what she loved: education. Malala was unfortunate to get attacked at such a young age but bold enough that even fortune and luck played its part in saving her life. She believed in the possibility of achieving things that seem impossible to many. Even today, after many sacrifices at a very young age, lshe eads by example and continues to inspire girls and all of us around the world with her boldness.

The above two influencing example make us remember the Louis Pasteur’s famous quote, “Fortune favors the prepared mind”.

They were not only passionate but daring. Fortune definitely favors those who never step away from tackling the difficulties and pains. There are millions who desire fortune but best of them are those who work to deserve that very fortune.
