Hit The Road On Your Next Adventure

Hit the Road on Your Next Adventure
People have their individual preferences when it comes to traveling… It is your vacation time after all! But your all-inclusive generic island getaway rarely begins the moment you depart from your doorstep. Airport transfers, baggage restrictions, other people's’ crying babies, long lines, turbulent plane rides, a bad sunburn, and one sugary cocktail too many have the chance to take away from your well-deserved time off. If what you’re looking for is an opportunity to surrender, explore, reset, and maximize your time off, then why not consider a road trip for your next adventure? Here are just a few reasons why taking the road less traveled will be your best decision yet…
Explore Somewhere New Not-So-Far
Traveling to a faraway land is not the only way to expand one’s world. The same roads we utilize for our daily commute can also transport us to new experiences just outside the parameters of our routine zone. We know we’re extra spoiled at our San Diego headquarters... driving two hours in any direction takes you from the stunning coastline to the snowy mountains, the desert, and the valleys of Mexico. Not to worry if you prefer to hug the coast; the views become even more immaculate heading in either direction. Even if your hometown doesn’t boast the same unique location, what are the changes in scenery you could discover just two hours away from your doorstep?
No Excuses
“But what do I do with the kids while I’m out roadtrippin?”
Easy. Bring them! When you’re on your own time, there is no need to rush. Use this opportunity to teach your children the value of patience in the age of instant gratification, and practice your own when you take yet another pit-stop in anticipation of a tantrum brewing from the backseat. Remember getting there is half the fun, so enjoy all of the stops and breaks with the company of your family as if it all amounted to the reward of reaching the final destination.
“I spend enough time driving!”
There is a difference between driving straight from Point A to Point B and driving with the intention of having an adventure. Before you go anywhere, clean our your car completely so it feels like new. Dress in comfortable clothing. Listen to groovy music that makes you want to dance and sing along in your seat. Share untold stories with your road trip mates. Pack snacks. Take the scenic route. Most importantly, let the sensation of being on a journey permeate through each moment. The next time you’re back in your car driving to work, you may have a deeper appreciation for the path you’re on, literally and figuratively.
Unplug and Make a Friend
While making a travel itinerary may be helpful, avoid over-planning beyond what’s necessary. If you’re unsure of where to stop for lunch in an unfamiliar town, rather than pull up reviews on your smartphone, hop out of your car and take advantage of more valuable resources. What better way to get an authentic taste of the local flavor and attractions than by asking a local what they recommend! Step out of your tech bubble with a simple hello, and prepare to be amazed at how your trip unfolds both unexpectedly and wonderfully.
