Triphala has recently been making the news, with more and more Western doctors catching on to the potency of this ancient herb.

And according to Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary, Ayurvedic expert and neurologist, from her appearance on the Dr. Oz Show, "Triphala is the herb that every American should be on."

Fact: 70,000,000 people everyday suffer from some form of digestive issues (according to the American Nutrition Association).

Thousands of years ago, an herbal formula, triphala, was widely used. . . and people did not suffer from the modern ailments many of us have today such as: diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity and more. According to science, all of these conditions stem from the gut.

Triphala targets the gut area. . .  and is considered to be what's called tridoshic, because it pacifies all three doshas: vata (air and space), pitta (fire and water), and kapha (earth and water).

This herbal tonic is made up of the three Indian fruits known as haritaki, amalaki, and bibhitaki (it's direct translation from ancient Sanskrit is "3 fruits").

1Amalaki (emblica officinalis): a.k.a "Indian Gooseberry" has one of the highest concentrations of vitamin C of any fruit, and it's been found to increase energy, increase immunity, and purify the blood.

"Amalaki is an antioxidant that is wonderful for getting rid of inflammation in your body and increasing lean muscle mass as well as helping control your blood sugar." – Dr. Chaudhary

2. Haritaki (terminalia chebula) grows primarily in Southern Asia.  It is a wonder berry for getting rid of toxins in the colon, which is one of the most important organs for preventing the accumulation of ama.

Ama is the residue of undigested or partially digested food, which is usually caused by a poor digestive fire. This residue can accumulate, stagnate, ferment, and cause disease.

Haritaki improves digestion and heart function, is used as an anti-inflammatory, and has antifungal and antibacterial benefits.

3. Bibhitaki (terminalia belerica) gets rid of all the extra water and fat in your cells. This fruit comes from a large tree that grows in the hills of Southeast Asia. . .  and has shown high amounts of linoleic acid.

Linoleic acid is an essential fatty acid that has the ability to reduce fat in your bloodstream and increase your HDL (good) cholesterol/reduces your LDL (bad) cholesterol.

Aside from being a powerful detoxifier for the colon and GI tract, it's gentle laxative properties allow your bowels to be regular. . .  so no new toxins can build up again.

Bibhitaki aids in metabolism and absorption; it flushes out toxins from the liver and blood stream, which then strengthens the liver and optimizes circulation.

It also reduces serum cholesterol and hypertension by helping control weight and toning the body on a cellular level.

Not too shabby for 3 little fruits, right?

Triphala can be prescribed singly or adjunctively whenever there are symptoms of inflammation, heat, infection, obesity, or other conditions of excess. And because of its combined tonic and eliminative properties, it is generally quite safe to give even for deficiency diseases including anemia, fatigue, candida, and poor digestion.

There are numerous reports of individuals with chronic constipation who were able to regulate their bowels with the use of a triphala supplement.

This herb is known to be most effective when the colon needs to be cleared of excess waste. It keeps the liver healthy and flushes away ama. This digestive tonic regulates the functions of the GI tract—while enhancing the strength of the immune system, lungs, urinary tract, and the muscles.

The fruits of triphala are a super way to generate and restore energy to the body.

This ancient formula has been used for thousands of years, and as we continue to fight toxins in modern day, it may just be the "curing apple" that fell from the tree.

And the healing properties of triphala is another reason why the movement of Ancient Health Care works so diligently to bring the knowledge of the ancient science of Ayurveda to everyone.
